It has captivated thousands of fans around the globe over the past decade, now it has finally made it way to Singapore! Arguably the most intriguing of creativity contests around, the Red Bull Art of Can Singapore will mark the first time that the immensely popular pop art event is held in the Asia Pacific region.

The competition is open to artists, students, grandparents and all of those in-between are invited to participate, although the competition is expected to attract more creative types of all ages and occupations.

Flying in the face of traditional art media, contestants taking part in this unique contest have to abide by

only one single rule ..they need to incorporate the famous blue and silver Red Bull cans from the

Austrian Energy Drink giant along with some inspiration and a lot of imagination to conceive and produce

an original work art. The final artwork could be anything from a sculpture, to a collage, jewellery, furniture,

fashion accessory or interactive art!

In other words, they have a free reign to let their creativity run wild, as there are no constraints with the

Red Bull Art of Can contest other than the limits of one's imagination.

All that is asked is the Red Bull can be the focus of the art work. It's just that simple!

ART OF CAN EXHIBITION

The event will culminate in a 10-day exhibition to be held at the brand new *SCAPE building just off

Orchard Road, and is expected to showcase a wide variety of art made from recycled materials. It would

be really interesting and fascinating to see what the best creative minds in Singapore can come up with

this year. Past Red Bull Art of Can events have seen innovative exhibits like a 14-foot bull, an 8-foot

octopus and even a Mona Lisa replica portrait pieced together completely using the blue and silver cans!

The number of Red Bull cans used for the art pieces over the years ranged from one to an astounding

4,000!

For the Singapore event, an estimated 30-50 pieces are expected to be selected for the final exhibit

collection at *SCAPE, which will take place between 2-11 July 2010. The official private opening on 2

July will be a by-invite-only event with a guest list that is expected to feature the who's who in the local

arts scene, all participants, event partners and friends of Red Bull. There will also be an official after party

at Zouk, which is the official night spot for the Red Bull Art of Can Singapore 2010.

THE EXPERT OPINION

As with any major art competitions, a distinguished judging panel will be put together to help sort through

the array of submissions and determine which pieces will eventually earn a coveted pedestal in the final

exhibition. The judges..decision will be based on the overall creativity, execution and construction of each

piece. The final line-up of judges will be announced shortly but are expected to include authorities in the

local art scene and creative industry.

PRIZES

The judges will award special honors to the top three artists/pieces, including the grand prize of a trip for

two to Berlin, Germany, one of the world.s leading art cities. Second place winner receives a weekend

trip for two to Melbourne, Australia.s premier city for arts and culture, while third place takes home a

Canon DSLR camera. The three winners will be announced during the private opening on 2 July.

Ok, it's time to get something going!

PEACE
Nicholas
