5 films to look forward to in 2012 July 13 2012, 0 Comments

Motorway opens in cinemas nationwide on 21st June.

A similar film to Initial D which stared the scandalous Edison Chen, Motorway is a high-speed action flick that will set your adrenaline at an all time high! Drift racing junkies would definitely enjoy this film, subconsciously being at the driver’s seat accelerating beyond the limit.

Well, a high-speed chase always includes a getaway car and the police. Maybe throw in a few choppers hovering above them with spotlights to increase the tension. Featuring the likes of Shawn Yue and Barbie Hsu, Motorway explodes into a scene of underworld racing and fugitives on the run. Then a legendary escape driver for criminals who have never been caught for 15 years shows up after retiring from it. Well, then you know how the film goes. An undercover police arises from the scene to nab the retired criminal driver BUT, there’s a twist to this. It’s like that unexpected turn of the wheel which sends you flying to another part of Singapore.

Watch the film to find out!

The Amazing Spiderman opens in cinemas nationwide on 29th June.

This is a whole new Spiderman film and has no relation to the first two installments. You can blame the storyline with the lack of substance, or the embarrassingly poor acting of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, and Kristen Dunst as Peter Parker’s love interest Mary Jane, which resulted to the Marvel flick replacing Spiderman to ‘The Social Network’ actor, Andrew Garfield.

Here’s another dish, Peter Parker’s new love interest, Gwen Stacey, is played by no other than Andrew Garfield’s present girlfriend, Emma Stone! (They fell in love during the production of the movie and hit off in a snap!).

In this action-pack flick, the story follows Peter Parker, who was ostracized by his high school classmates and abandoned by his parents as a boy; thus leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Major jialat.

In between high school and growing up, Peter met his first high school crush, Gwen Stacey. Like every superhero-themed flick, there were commitment issues, insecurities on love and of course, the secret behind the true identity of the superhero. Along the way, he discovers a suitcase which belonged to his father and from there; he was led to the lab of Dr Curt Connors, his father’s former partner. As I continue to type, you must be wondering where on earth the scaly villain will drop into the picture.

Dr Connors’ alter-ego is The Lizard (Bam!). You know what happens thereafter; Spiderman comes in, thrashes The Lizard and tries to find a cure, and shapes his destiny to become a hero. Marvel enough for you? I know I’m thrilled.

Ice Age Continental Drift opens in cinemas nationwide on 13th July.

Phew! Let’s take a break from action and gore. Moving on to cartoons! What better animation to crack up than 20th Fox Century’s comedy film Ice Age? This is the fourth installment of the hilarious trio, Sid the Sloth (voiced by John Leguizamo), Diego the Saber-tooth (voiced by Dennis Leary) and Manny the Mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano), and they are back with more adventure and laughter. And there’s Scrat and his cursed acorn.

While Scrat continues his never-ending pursuit for his cursed acorn since the beginning of time, a continental cataclysm triggers the earth’s plate, which separated the Prehistoric trio from the rest of the herd. They are challenged with exotic sea creatures, and even battle ruthless pirates! How insane are their adventures? And get this, in the midst of chaos, Sid reunited with his long lost family!

Don’t you wish you were born a gazillion years ago and have a journey like theirs?

I rather die a million deaths than to face a continental drift, trust me. Ice Age 4 may make the entire catastrophe look fun and exciting, but in a real situation, you’ll fall into a deep crevice the moment the ground splits.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in cinemas nationwide on 20th July.

The saga of Batman continues in this third installment, with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as the loyal butler Alfred, Gary Oldman as Officer Gordon, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and Tom Hardy as Bane. Directed by Christopher Nolan for the second time, this concludes the trilogy of The Dark Knight and he plans to end it off with an epic ending (we’ll see)!

Just so you know, this story is set eight years ahead after the Joker was arrested and Harvey Kent was killed, so don’t anticipate their sudden cameo in the midst of fights or negotiations. Bane will body-slam fans with his drug induced body that increases his body size! He is the new terrorist of Gotham and overwhelms citizens with fear, and behold! The Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city, which branded him an enemy. Oh irony.

Selina Kyle plays his love interest (what’s Bruce Wayne without women, really) and the associate for Bane. A double agent she is, commitment issues she has. This thrilling and action packed conclusion to the Batman trilogy is a film DC fans are dying to catch! If only Heath Ledger (who played the role of Joker in the previous film) was alive to watch this. RIP dude.

What next? Paranormal Activity 3 was set in the 1980s

Paranormal Activity 4 is slated to release on 14th October, but rumor has it the horror flick will be shown nationwide on Halloween 2012.

Currently, the plot is disclosed from the public eye, but I’m positively sure every one of us will flock to the cinemas and catch this spine-tingling horror film. Sharing the same idea as ‘The Poltergeist’ by Steven Spielberg , Paranormal Activity 4 would definitely send chills all over your body. I can bet you a million popcorns, you would scream if I flick at your ear after catching this horror flick.
